Four-Season Living
Golf near Georgian Bay: the real course landscape from Wasaga to Thornbury
Published October 16, 2026
If golf is part of the retirement you're picturing, Southern Georgian Bay has one of the strongest course lineups of any region in Ontario, and it all sits within roughly a half-hour drive. From a public municipal nine-holer in Thornbury to a private member-only club in Clarksburg, there's a course for every budget and every level of commitment. Here's the honest local landscape, course by course, and what golf-adjacent living actually means if you're buying.
Golf in Wasaga Beach
- Marlwood Golf & Country Club: an established, member-oriented club on the west side of town with membership options and a full social calendar. This is the club where Wasaga's serious golfers tend to land.
- The Links at Georgian Sands: a public course along the Nottawasaga River at the south end of town, a relaxed round without a membership commitment.
- Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club: a 36-hole club (Championship and Highlands courses) with membership options, popular for leagues and couples play.
- Wasaga Sands Golf Club: a more casual public option on the Beachwood Road side of town.
Golf in Collingwood and Nottawa
- Blue Mountain Golf & Country Club: the region's best-known membership club, set at the base of the escarpment in Nottawa, with an active senior membership and leagues.
- OslerBrook Golf and Country Club: a championship 18-hole course north of Collingwood, offering memberships and daily play with a strong walkability reputation.
- Cranberry Golf Course: a public 18-hole course on the water at Collingwood's west edge, one of the most scenic and most playable public rounds in the region.
- Batteaux Creek Golf Club: a semi-private 18-hole course in Nottawa operated through GolfNorth, offering tee times and memberships with a very active 55-plus league scene.
- Living Stone Golf Resort: a resort-oriented public course just east of Collingwood, good for a relaxed round with family and guests.
- Monterra Golf: the public resort course at Blue Mountain Village, a fun and well-maintained option right in the heart of the four-season resort area.
Golf in Thornbury and The Blue Mountains
- The Golf Club at Lora Bay: a semi-private 18-hole course above Thornbury in the Lora Bay community, with public tee times and membership options, and the course around which the area's most famous golf-community homes are built.
- The Georgian Bay Club: a private, member-only 18-hole club in Clarksburg. If membership and a club community matter most, this is the region's top tier.
- Tomahawk Golf Course: the municipally owned public course near Thornbury, friendly, affordable, and a favourite with locals. This is where a casual weekly game stays easy on the budget.
Golf-community living: what to actually know
Golf is woven into the real estate here more than almost anywhere else in Ontario outside Muskoka. The most recognizable golf-community addresses are Lora Bay above Thornbury, the Georgian Bay Club's surrounding neighbourhoods in Clarksburg, and sections of Wasaga Beach and Nottawa near Marlwood, Twin Creeks, and Blue Mountain Golf & Country Club. Homes in these pockets range from estate lots to newer single-level builds, and the price spread is wide, so there's a golf-adjacent option in most budgets rather than one single price point.
Three things I tell every golf-minded buyer: first, verify the membership reality before you buy, because some clubs have waitlists and initiation structures that matter. Second, check how close you genuinely are, because "on the course" and "five minutes away" are very different experiences, and only one puts the cart barn at your door. Third, remember the season. The golf year here runs roughly late April to late October, which is why the region's simulators, like Ace Track Indoor Golf in Collingwood and The Golf Club, stay busy all winter. That's four-season living in practice: a full season outdoors, and the swing stays sharp indoors when the snow flies.
Which course fits which lifestyle?
- Casual, pay-as-you-play: Tomahawk, Georgian Sands, Living Stone, Cranberry, Monterra.
- Semi-private with a league scene: Batteaux Creek, Lora Bay, OslerBrook.
- Full membership, club community: Marlwood, Twin Creeks, Blue Mountain Golf & Country Club, The Georgian Bay Club.
If golf is a top priority in your move, I'll happily match your budget and your game to the right community, from a condo near a public teebox to an estate home on a fairway. If it's one priority among many, the buying guide and my Ontario retirement guide will help you weigh everything together. Either way, this is exactly the kind of decision where seeing the courses and the neighbourhoods in person beats a spreadsheet, and I'm happy to set that up. Helping you navigate your next chapter includes knowing where you'll play your first round in it.
Course names, facilities, and links above are drawn from each club's own website and municipal sources as of October 16, 2026. Membership fees, tee-time availability, and acceptance policies change, so confirm current details directly with the clubs.
